Our Board

Gay Graham board member

Gay Graham

President

Gay has worn many hats since her college days. A few experiences and occupations were atrocious, but most were rewarding and productive. While it may seem as if they were independent of each other, their threads intertwined creating a mosaic for Gay toward better understanding and making positive decisions. She is continually impressed with the JLSFRC staff, the programs they lead and surely, their Executive Director. Three areas stand out for Gay, though: Island Neighbors, YAAS, and Recovery Café.

Tillie Sherman board member

Tillie Sherman

Vice President

Tillie and her husband have lived in Friday Harbor since 2005. Prior to moving here, she worked as a bilingual teacher for 12 years in California. Tillie has volunteered with ELL classes at the library when they were offered here, as well as volunteering in a “K” class for four years. She would like to use her bilingual skills and educational background as a teacher to help individuals who might need my assistance in any way she can.

Karol McLune boardmember

Karol McLuen

Treasurer

Karol moved to Friday Harbor in June 2019 after she retired. Her career focused on finances and reporting, including organization structures, human resources, and budgeting. JLSFRC provides so many different programs of help for all island residents. Karol is honored to contribute her experiences as a board member and be a part of this wonderful community asset.

Katharine Briar Lawson board member

Katharine Briar-Lawson

Secretary

Katherine began developing Family Resource Centers in 1987 and has been promoting them nationally as a social worker and a professor. It is an honor for Katherine to serve on the board of the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center as it serves as an example for the Family Resource Center movement across the nation.

David Anderson

New to the board, Dave and his wife Linnea have been part of our community since 2013. Their two daughters are proud graduates of the baby/toddler lap sit program. Dave is dedicated to enhancing childcare and after-school programs. He also enjoys processing firewood with the Sunday crew, supporting the Island Neighbors program that provides wood to those in need. Dave hopes to discover more opportunities where community members can share their unique skills to benefit our community.

Angela Broderick

Angela first moved to San Juan Island in 1999 and spent six years growing a deep connection to the island and this community. After a stint furthering her professional life in the ‘big city’, she returned with her husband and son in 2016 to put down roots. Angela’s background is focused on sustainability and communications, and she is honored to support JSFRC’s work centered on respect, equity, and dignity for all islanders.

Lorraine Littlewood board member

Lorraine Littlewood

Lorraine is a semi-retired bookkeeper with a BA in Business Economics from UC Santa Cruz and has over 25 years of experience in Corporate Accounting positions in Silicon Valley, CA, prior to moving to San Juan Island in 1997 with her husband John. Lorraine volunteers to help JLSFRC clients with their finances, such as budgeting, monthly cash flow, and paying off debt.

James Richardson board member

James Richardson

While James may be new to the island, he isn’t new to supporting local nonprofits who help at-risk youth.

Nicole Santora

Nicole moved to San Juan Island with her family in 2019 and is excited to serve on the JLSFRC Board, contributing to our vibrant island community. Passionate about fostering authentic connections and well-being, Nicole combines her performing arts background with her experience as a parent of two young children. As Director of Development at San Juan Community Theatre for four years, she played a key role in raising funds and building capacity for the performing arts on the island. Nicole is eager to help strengthen the resources and programs that enrich the lives of families and individuals in our community.

Dave Zeretzke board member

Dave Zeretzke

David has lived on San Juan Island since 1980 but has lived in 8 states since high school. Children have always been part of his life as a father, as a big brother (formally and informally), as an elementary school teacher, and also as a juvenile court volunteer, employee and administrator for over 13 years. The work of the JLSFRC to support families and especially young children fit David’s inclinations as a retiree, knowing the growing need on the Island for high quality social services.

Marty Hukeatte board member

Marty Huleatte

Chair Emeritus

Marty had a career in technical education. She met Joyce Sobel shortly after moving to the island and has seen all the growth of JLSFRC responding to needs. In addition to providing valuable day-to-day tech support for the JLSFRC staff, Marty serves as Board Member Emeritus and is an expert on the agency’s history and growth over the past twenty-five years.
