Volunteering
Head Back Home ~ How to Help ~ Volunteering
The Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center provides meaningful volunteer opportunities through our youth and family programs and services. We are always interested in recruiting new volunteers. Sharing your time, talent and compassion is one of the greatest gifts you can give our community.
All opportunities help in furthering the mission of the Family Support Center: mentoring children, strengthening families, and helping islanders.
Mentoring
The Family Resource Center provides mentoring programs for various age groups: one-on-one matches and group mentoring for children, SJI youth mentoring for tweens, and first-generation mentoring for teens and young adults who are the first in their families to attend college or vocational school. These programs aim to promote resiliency, relationship-building, and provide academic support.
Island Neighbors
Island Neighbors is a community-based program that provides social, emotional and practical support to elderly, ill, isolated or disabled islanders who wish to remain living in their own homes. Regularly scheduled visits from caring, trained volunteers help our more vulnerable neighbors to enjoy a higher quality of life and avoid emergencies. Services include help with errands, transportation assistance, companionship and other similar needs. Call us, or fill out the contact form below for more information.
