Infant/Toddler Play Groups

If you have an infant or toddler and are eager to connect with other families who have little ones, then JLSFRC’s infant/toddler playgroups may be just the right fit!  Our center provides multiple programs each week.  Some weekly sessions are drop-in, while others are registration-based. Groups include:

Rain or Shine Playgroup

Join this drop-in, outdoor playgroup each Monday from 10:00 – 11:30. Playgroup locations rotate and include Jackson’s Beach, the SJ County Fairgrounds playgroup and Linde Park.  Check our events calendar for upcoming sessions.

Toddler Teatime

This registration-only playgroup provides a more structured opportunity for toddlers ages 18 – 36 months and their parents/guardians to participate in group activities that build social skills and prepare the way for preschool.  Call us at (360) 378-5246 for more information on how to enroll.

Library

Baby Toddler Time is a storytime and play group designed for caregivers with infants and toddlers at the San Juan Island Library.  JLSFRC partners with the library to explore Playing, Reading, Rhyming, and Singing combined with plenty of social and play time to support your little one’s development. Free, no registration required. Thursdays, 10:00AM – 11:30.

Childcare Co - op

The San Juan Island Childcare Cooperative (SJICC) provides affordable, high-quality care and learning for infants and toddlers. SJICC is a partnership between JLSFRC and Skagit Valley College. Parents/caregivers participate in the running of the Co-op, providing in-class support and serving on a Parent Advisory Board.

Developmental Screenings

Many parents are curious about their young child’s healthy development. Developmental screenings are a smart way to make sure your child is getting all the right supports and experiences to meet developmental milestones. Safe Care Home Visiting Program

SafeCare is an evidence-based home visiting program for families with children ages 0 – 5. A specially trained Child Development provider can make up to twenty home visits per family, helping parents build skills that enhance home safety, child health and developmentally appropriate parent-infant-child interactions.

The preschool years are filled with joy, playfulness, and sometimes overwhelming experiences. At JLSFRC, we understand that parents of preschoolers often have questions and concerns, and we believe that every question is important. That’s why our 0-5 Family Support Specialist is here to confidentially address your individual needs. Safe Care Home Visiting Program

Head Start Primary Intervention Program (not available for public)

JLSFRC’s Head Start Primary Intervention Program (PIP) provides individualized supportive playroom sessions for children enrolled in San Juan Island’s Head Start Program.  Sessions focus on helping preschoolers express feelings, develop emotional literacy and build confidence.

Ready for Kindergarten

Each spring, The Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center partners with local preschools and our public elementary school to offer a series of activities that help incoming kindergartners and their families feel familiar with school resources and ease the transition into Kindergarten.  Our Ready for Kindergarten specialist also makes home visits to incoming Kindergarteners and their families, to provide one-to-one support and familiarize children with Kindergarten activities and routines. Household Essentials

Cleaning and hygiene supplies (including diapers!) can be a big expense for new families.  If you have a child under 5 years old and you qualify for WIC, you may be interested in enrolling in our Household Essentials Program.  Click here for more information about the monthly items you might be able to receive free of charge.

Counseling

Are you interested in finding counseling support for yourself or a family member?  The Resource Center can help you find professional counseling services, substance use treatment, or recovery supports that are a good fit for your needs and insurance eligibility.  Whether you have private pay health insurance, Washington Apple Health, Medicare or no coverage at all, our knowledgeable staff will assist you in finding timely and helpful behavioral health supports.  All services are confidential.
