Screen Free Week Challenge
Screen-Free Saturdays: Rediscover Connection, Nature, and Play
Once a month, we’re inviting islanders of all ages to unplug from screens and plug back into life!
Join us for Screen-Free Saturdays — a new monthly event series hosted by the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center.
Each second Saturday of the month, we’ll gather at a local park, trail, or community spot for a fun, hands-on, and screen-free activity — from birdwatching and beach walks to creative outdoor adventures.
Whether you come solo, with friends, or as a family, Screen-Free Saturdays are a reminder that the best memories don’t require Wi-Fi.
Why Go Screen-Free?
Screens connect us — but sometimes, they keep us from truly connecting. Taking a little time offline gives our minds and bodies a chance to rest, reset, and reconnect with what matters most: nature, community, and each other.
Even just one screen-free morning a month can:
Boost creativity and curiosity
Improve focus and mental well-being
Strengthen family bonds
Encourage outdoor exploration
Build mindfulness and gratitude

Not able to join in person?
Here are a few fun ideas to go screen-free wherever you are:
Explore Nature: Take a walk and look for five signs of spring — a budding tree, a bird song, a new color in the sky.
Picnic at the Park: Pack lunch and invite a friend or neighbor to join you outside.
Craft Together: Use recycled materials or natural items like pinecones and shells to make art.
Read Aloud: Pick a favorite book or poem and take turns reading as a family.
Play Classic Games: Dust off the board games or try “I Spy” on your next car ride.

Unplug, unwind, and reconnect — one Saturday at a time.
Screen-Free Saturdays happen on the second Saturday of every month.
